Richard was born in Jefferson County in 1946. As a boy, he farmed with his father and brothers until they started a construction company and moved into Fairfield.
Richard graduated from Fairfield High School in 1966 and then enlisted in the United States Navy.
During his three deployments to Vietnam, between 1966 and 1970, he was awarded for his exemplary service (by the Navy).
Richard and Mary (Holmes) married in 1968. After his military service they returned to Fairfield to raise their family in 1976. They have three grown children and four grandchildren.
For 30 years Richard owned and operated Reed's Construction and Home Improvements. He currently has a consulting and home inspection business. Mary supports Richard in his business while working full-time with a regional insurance organization.
