Louden Stanchions

Another first for Louden

Louden invented and exhibited the first practical all-steel cow stall at the 1907 National Dairy Show.  Wooden stalls had been widely used, but presented various problems, which the all-steel stalls were designed to solve.

Steel stalls rescued from an old barn, like the ones pictured below, are on display in the Show Barn at the Maasdam Barns complex in Fairfield, IA.

The metal stanchions could move with the cow, so were more comfortable for them.  10-08-11
